June News from MK’s Sew-Able

Hello Sewing Friends

I’ve been very slack at composing this Newsletter and I do apologise but time just seems to slip by so quickly. These past months have been busy but I’m  unsure what I’ve been doing. I am a new blogger, so I am a little nervous about the formatting, especially inserting photos and PDF notices, but I hope you can read everything. If the photos don’t come up on your ipad or phone, go to my website: http://www.sewable.com.au and you can view this news by clicking on the blog icon. Don’t forget to check the facebook page as well, quite often the latest news is written here.

I have been doing some of the Natalie Bird stitcheries and I am enjoying her designs. The Birdhouse patterns are proving to be quite popular and we made the Mouse PinCushion as a sample and it has sold well. I have spoken to Natalie and she will come for a Trunk show sometime in the future, when we can set a mutually suitable day. I will ensure you know this date in plenty of time.

Sue Daley’s English Paper piecing patterns are moving well, with some pretty new patterns on the market. Whimsical, pictured below is now in stock at MK’s, along with Heartland, Flower Patch and Sundance. There are some amazing Paper pieced combinations created by the Sit’n’Sew and Little Things club girls. The Mug Rug club is doing very well, 4th Saturday each month, we stitched Clam Shells in May, and I admit to being surprised at how many ladies liked doing them.

The Machine Embroidery Club is normally held on 2nd Thursday of each month but will be next Thursday the 15th June.  Di has been leading these lades through some very interesting projects, including Fringe flowers on Thread bins and Table runners, Wing Needle embroidery – some beautiful Duchess sets and runners, Lace Book-marks, Lace doileys and more. Club day is on the 17th of this month, and the project is a net food cover, pictured below, with the Embroidered Velvet technique flowers. We are doing a few of the Sweet Pea Embroidery designs and I am finding Applique embroidery in the hoop, to be quite interesting. Pictured below are the Sweet Pea Leaf

I don’t have a new Calendar, but, apart from the Machine Embroidery club and The English Paper Piecing club, the only other class is a Cosmetic purse (pictured below) scheduled for the 16th August. Early payment, $15, ensures a seat.

Of course the Sit’n’Sew groups, Tuesday and Friday, are going well and still have their humour and knowledge to share. It can be very hard to hand stitch with such tom-foolery going on around the table. At the moment, there is a variety of projects happening, knitting, crochet, Kate’s novel work on the Beyond the Porch, Stitcheries, Paper Piecing , Applique and Janita is doing a wonderful job of the Dancing Dolly quilt. It’s also nice how everyone offers help to finish projects, as in Sharyn’s case, someone like Janine to make the first cut in her Pin-Wheel quilt, a very Daunting thing to do.

It is unfortunate that the monthly Dress making/Drafting/Alteration class has been put on hold. We will re-visit this at some time in the future.

Chris is looking at some Patchwork and Quilting and/or applique projects that may interest you. A point of interest for William Morris / Michele Hill fans. Michele will be doing a Trunk Show at the new Toowoomba Quilters Club rooms, at the Toowoomba Community Baptist Church, 100 Glenvale Road, (cnr Greenwattle Street) Toowomba. Cost is $5 and there will be a complimentary morning tea supplied with the Trunk show commencing at 10am. I did a  class with Michele while in Teragil at a PFAFF convention, I found her to be very approachable and happy to share her knowledge. We have run a William Morris club in the shop and I still have ladies bringing in their finished projects for Show ‘n’ Tell. I still have Michele’s second book,  More Morris Applique,  in stock.

Customers are often surprised at the variety of Rulers and Template stock that I hold and I also like to share that I sell good Local Made Ruler Stands, pictured below, these are great for Rulers and Templates. Darryl was in today and I am assured that he will drop in some new stock in the near future. thank you Darryl, I know how much you and Lorraine have on your plate, so I appreciate you fitting this in before you go away. I am often asked for the Westalee rulers but I confess these are not on my shopping list. I do sell the Handi Quilters rulers and the Curvit rulers. You are welcome to visit to check these out.

There is a current End of Financial Year sale on PFAFF Sewing Machines, valid while stocks last or until 30th June.  Fantastic pricing, this is the time to buy. I have the new Expression 3.5 in stock and I must admit I quite like it. Click on the following PDF link to view these specials. Stocktake-2017-PFAFF

The Simply Sixteen with 5ft Frame and the Sit-Down Sweet Sixteen are both on Special.

On the subject of Sewing Machines, it is important to clean it occassionaly, especially after flannel, fleece or wadding work, see picture below, Not the way to treat a friend, this machine was having a number of issues and once I opened the top to take a look , I felt sorry for it. In this photo, I have already cleaned the feed-dogs. Just a small word of warning, place your parts in line so that you don’t have a problem putting them back, in the right order.

I will leave for now and I will endeavour to drop more info as it happens. I am sorry for the scattered appearance of the photos. I don’t know why this is happening but I have spent too much time on them to try any longer. Please look my blog or facebook to keep up to date.

Until next time, Happy Stitching and Remember – If you See Someone without a Smile, Give them one of Yours.

MK's Sew-Able is a Patchwork/Quilting Fabric Store where you can not only buy fabric but a PFAFF Quilting/Sewing Machine or a HQ Sweet16. I created MK's in January 2005 when I started selling Singer Sewing Machines then expanded the business in April 2007 with PFAFF machines. This expansion included the purchase of Patchwork Fabrics and all that goes with it.

  1. Hopefully, the photos will be presented better next time. I don’t understand why the Birthday cake photo reproduced into a background frame, couldn’t do it again if I tried.
